Captain, 19th Unattached Massachusetts Infantry
The son of Warren and Eliza (Whiting) Johnson.
Frank was a 24-year-old Bootmaker from Franklin, MA when he married 17-year-old Sarah J. Aldrich, a Wrentham, MA native, on July 30, 1851. They were the parents of of Lottie M., born in 1864, and Henry S., born in 1874.
Frank, who stood 5 ft. 11-1/2 inches tall, with a light complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair, was a 27-year-old Cordwainer when he was mustered as a 1st Lieutenant with the 19th Unattached Massachusetts Infantry for ninety days on July 19, 1864. The regiment served at Fort Warren in Boston Harbor and was responsible for guarding Confederate prisoners. The regiment was mustered out of military service on November 19, 1864. Volunteers enlisted for one year's service on November 19th and Frank was mustered as a Captain. He served at Fort Warren until mustered out on June 27, 1865.
He resided at Plymouth following his military service where he was employed in the shoe industry and remained in the town through at least 1898. He moved to Union, Broome County, New York where he was recorded in the 1900 Census as a "Chemist." His son Harry, a bookkeeper, also resided in the home with his wife Sofia and two children Arlene and Herman.
Frank died of a cerebral hemorrhage at age 84.
