She was born in Gordon County on October 10, 1936, daughter of the late Elmer Burton (E.B) Rogers and the late Irene Muse Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guenter Schmitz, on February 3, 2017; her children, Connie Diane Hudgins and Arnold Ervin Hudgins; and a sister, Jannie May Dutton.
Wilma worked for many years at Atlantic Carpets. She was a member of Damascus Baptist Church, and attended Erwin Hill Church of God.
Survivors include her children, Vickie Irene Long, Melinda Daniel, and Christy Nicole Schmitz; grandchildren, Mario Porras, Heithe Hudgins, Holly Hudgins, Yvette Pike, Chris Gentry, Casie Fisher, and Christy Olivares; great-grandchildren, Cory James, Keenan Schmitz, Jacqulion Acevedo, Abrianna Dominguez, Ivan Martinez, Araceli Martinez, Kylie Porras, Ezra Porras, Austin, Addison, Aiden, Eli, Aurora, Miranda, Carter, JJ, Colton, and Brooklyn; and a great-great grandchild, Imani Heaven James. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Services to honor the life of Wilma Rogers Schmitz will be held Wednesday, January 17th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. James Shope officiating. Burial will follow in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Juan, Cory, Keenan, Mario, Heigh, and Chris. Honorary pallbearers are Buck Lancaster and Doug Pike.
