BARBARA HARBOUR

Barbara Jeanne Harbour, 70, formerly of Kankakee, was born Nov. 4, 1947, and passed away Jan. 4, 2018, at Sumner Medical Center in Gallatin, Tenn.

She grew up in Kankakee, daughter of Ron Jr. and Mary Harbour, who were owners of Ron's Drive, once located on the site where Popeye's Chicken is today. And you often could find her working with her folks and siblings at the popular 1960s hang out.

Barb attended St. Joseph's Grade School in Bradley and Bishop McNamara High School in Kankakee. She was a graduate of St. Mary of Nazareth Nursing School at Loyola University.

Barbara left the Kankakee area in the early 1970s for California, where she enjoyed a brilliant career as a registered nurse, working at such prestigious hospitals as Tarzana Medical Center in Los Angeles and Scripps Hospital in San Diego. During her time at Scripps, she was part of a team that pioneered unique catheter-based treatments for complex peripheral arterial disease.

Barbara also served as a technical adviser on such popular TV shows as "Medical Center" and "M*A*S*H."

Sadly, she was forced to give up her career a decade ago after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Ms. Harbour was an accomplished equestrian who loved animals, and her friends always knew unwanted or abandoned animals would find a loving home with her.

Surviving are her son, Jeffrey Gullickson, of Tennessee; her daughter, Sara Hendershott Magoun, and son-in-law, Dr. Jay Magoun, who also reside in Tennessee; as well as four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Also mourning Barbara's loss are her 96-year-old mother, Mary Harbour, of Heritage Woods, Manteno; sisters, Peggy Harbour Dattilo, of Bourbonnais, and Mary Jane Harbour Cleeland, along with her husband, Mac Cleeland, of Arizona; as well as a brother, Michael Harbour, of California; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were a granddaughter, Karena Gullickson; and her father.

A private memorial service will be at a later date in Kankakee. She will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dwight, alongside her father, grandparents, great-grandparents and other relatives.
