Ellen Anthony Norris, age 98, of Gatesville, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018. There will be a private family graveside at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery outside Comanche, TX. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2018, at Scott’s Funeral Home. The family will also have a visitation from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Comanche, TX.

Ellen was born on August 5, 1919 in Comanche, Texas to the late E.E. Anthony and Jessie Hamilton Anthony. She was raised and attended school in Comanche, TX. She married Virgil Norris on January 1, 1941. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his death in 1986. Ellen enjoyed time with her family and was very supportive of her two sons. She loved to cook and make candy, even making candy to sell in the local stores. Ellen made the sandwich spread for the soda fountain in Durham’s Drug Store in Comanche. Ellen was active in bridge club along with her husband Virgil. She was still playing bridge with local clubs in Gatesville during her mid 90’s. Ellen also was an avid Tupperware sales person. Always needing a place to store the candy she was making. Chances are that if you were ever lucky enough to have stopped by and visited the Norris’s, you would have left with a Tupperware catalog, some assortment of homemade candy, and some fresh garden vegetables.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Norris; sisters, Josephine (Anthony) Box and Lillian Elizabeth (Anthony) Durham; and brothers, Dr. E.E. Anthony Jr. and Boyd Hamilton Anthony.

Ellen is survived by her sons, Dr. Stephen Norris and wife, Cathy of Gatesville and Dr. John Norris and wife, Ann of Tyler; grandchildren, Stephanie Streetman and husband, Joseph, Maryann Denton and husband, Michael, Rebecca Brandt and husband, Tom, and Amy Schulz and husband, Lee; and great-grandchildren, Avery, Callen, Barret, Madeleine, Natalie, Caden, Annie, Zachary, John, and Caroline.
