Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Vernon Ashworth and Ethel Marie Wooten.
Betty graduated from Parker High School, attended Lees McRae College, and retired from Southern Railway.
Mrs. Stapleton is survived by two daughters Terri Stapleton and Fredda S. Lazar; one son Joey D. Stapleton; three grandsons Tripp, Jay, and Dalton; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and one sister Ruth McKinnon.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister Hazel Waters; and three brothers Joe, Jack, and Jimmy Ashworth.
Burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
