Elvin S. Barlieb, 55, of 20 N. Broad St. was struck by a car in front of his home at 3:30 a.m. A father of six, he was production supervisor for the second shift at Anderson Pretzel Bakery, 2060 Old Philadelphia Pike.
Barlieb had been employed at the pretzel bakery for eight or nine years. He was active in Boy Scout work, especially with Cub Pack 80. Born in Kunkletown, Monroe County, Barlieb was the son of the late George and Sushanna VanBuskirk Barlieb. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He served in the Navy in World War II. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Brill Barlieb, and these children: Linda, wife of Paul Swearinger; Mark F. Barlieb and Sue Ann, wife of Douglas Haar, all of Lancaster; Christopher, Amy and Marcia, all three at home. Also surviving are five grandchildren; a sister, Eva, wife of Roy Correll, Saylorsburg; and a brother, Clarence Barlieb, Kunkletown.
