Dean Raymond Hoppens, 70, Rowlett, Texas, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at his home.

A memorial service will be Friday, April 16, at the First United Methodist Church, Rowlett, Texas. The Rev Rick Davis will officiate.

He was born March 13, 1934, in Harvard, Neb.

He graduated with a degree in geology from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He entered officer training in the Navy and retired as a lieutenant commander.

He married C Jeanne Seip, Summerfield.

They lived in the Lake Highlands area in 1961 and moved to one of the first subdivisions in Rowlett in 1973. He was active in the Rowlett Planning and Zoning Commission for 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Keith Hoppens.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; three sons, Kenneth Hoppens, Slidell, La., Russell Hoppens, Highland Village, Texas and Jerry Hoppens, Dallas; a daughter, Karen Gylys, Bell Canyon,Calif.; a brother, Robert Hoppens, Harvard, Neb.; a sister, JoAnn Pettijohn; and eight grandchildren.
