∼Charles Grayson "Pete" Nichols, age 81, of Marion, passed away Thursday, march 22, 2007 while at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of McDowell County, Mr. Nichols was born December 30, 1925 and was a son of the late Paul V. Nichols and Grace Lusk Nichols. He was a US Navy Veteran having served during WWII. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. Mr. Nichols worked for over 30 years at United Merchants in Old Fort and Scotland. He later retired from Asheville Dye and Finishing. He was a member of the Marion Moose Lodge and the Masonic Lodge #237 of Marion. He was an avid golfer and was known by his family and friends as having a keen sense of humor. His wife, Velma Lail Nichols, preceded him in death.
Surviving Mr. Nichols are two step-children: Kathy Rhodes and husband Larry of Marion and Kim Caraway and wife Dianne also of Marion; one sister, Naomi Jones of Marion; four grandchildren: Keith, Shawn, Justin and Frances; two great grandsons: Zach and Devon and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 25, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. David Minor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association, 60 Bay St., Staten Island, NY 10301.
