Hildegard Jeske Schmalriede, 83, of Crawford, died Friday morning, March 23, 2007. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Beers officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Memorial Park in Crawford, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, McGregor. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cole Funeral Home.

Hildegard was born in McGregor, Texas, to the late Carl Henry "Charlie" and Anna (Fehler) Jeske. She attended Crawford High School and on April 21, 1945, she married Eldon Schmalriede in McGregor. For sixteen years, she and Eldon owned Crawford Feed and Grain and farmed together. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and served as treasurer. She enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and painting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Schmalriede on May 29, 2006; and a sister, Helen Hamilton.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Novosad and her husband, Roy, of Bellville; grandchildren: Steven, Jeffery, and Michael Novosad; sister, Anna Mae Rogers, of McGregor; other relatives and many friends.
