Mr. Irwin, who was in his fift-first year, was born in Mansfield, Oct. 11, 1859, having been a son of the late Levi Irwin. After attending the public schools here as a boy, he entered the employ of J. H. Reed & Bro., book dealers, and continued in the employ of C. N. Pendleton, who later purchased the store.
About 1882 he went into the northwest with Reid Carpenter and whole Mr. Carpenter returned to Mansfield, Mr. Irwin located at White Springs, Montana, and for a number of years conducted a general store there, in which he prospered to a marked degree. For several years past he had been clerk of one of the state boards of Montana, with headquarters at Helena.
Early last winter the condition of his health became such that his physician advised a course of treatment in California and Mr. Irwin was there for several months but as he grew worse instead of better it was finally deemed best that he come here and he was brought to Mansfield about three months ago. He was suffering from a disease of the liver and whole at times he seemed some better the general trend was for the worse and death finally relived his suffering.
He is survived by his mother and one brother, John, of this city. Funeral from the home Tuessday afternoon.
