Nellie Ruth Murphy was born February 3, 1921 in Ennis, TX and passed away December 27, 2017 in Mesquite, TX. A graduate of Forest Ave High School, Nellie Ruth worked for Sears Roebuck, during WWII then became a stay at home mom until returning to the workforce when she began working as a school secretary for DISD. Nellie Ruth advanced in her career with DISD in administration, working as the Administrative Assistant, to the school districts' attorney until retirement. Nellie Ruth was elected to the Board of Directors of the Credit Union of Texas of which she served for 35 plus years. Nellie Ruth was also active in Forest Ave High School Alumni Association and also the Dallas Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James E. (Jeanette) Murphy; grandchildren, Mark R. (Ashley) Murphy, Brent G. Murphy, Craig S. (Betsy) Murphy, Erin T. (B.J.) Westmoreland; great grandchildren, Jack Westmoreland, Reese Westmoreland, Oliver Murphy, Emma Mayo, Jack Mayo, Griffin Mayo, Georgia Mayo; numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Peggy Genthner. Visitation will be 7pm to 9pm, Tuesday, 1/2/2018 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10am Wednesday, 1/3/2018, at Highland Oaks Church of Christ, 10805 Walnut Hill Ln, Dallas, TX 75238. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
