Morehouse, Walt - Funeral services for Walter Morehouse, 74, of Hopkins were held October 12 at the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev John Shipley officiating. Mr Morehouse died October 8 at the Methodist Hospital in St Joseph [Missouri] following a lengthy illness. Interment was at the Hopkins [Missouri] Cemetery.

Walter Messecar Morehouse, the son of Walter C. Morehouse and Minnie Messecar Morehouse, was born on a farm east of Hopkins on August 5, 1897.

On September 25, 1918 at Savannah, Mo., he was united in marriage to Lola E. Owens, who survives. To this union were born four sons, Vilas (Roy) of Anderson, Calif., Charles of Leavenworth, Kan., Harry of Blue Springs, Mo., and Verlin (Bud) of Lompoc, Calif., all of whom survive. He is also survived by two sisters and three brothers, Henry of Hopkins, Mrs Ruth Smith of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Harley of Portland, Ore., Paul of Fort Collings, Colo., and Mrs Glen Woldruff (Edna) of Hopkins; four daughters-in-law, eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

His parents, one brother, Virgil, and three grandchildren preceded him in death.

Walt, as he was affectionately known, was a farmer until he retired because of failing health in 1960. He lived his entire life in the Hopkins community, the family home being three miles north of Hopkins in Taylor County, Iowa. Walt took much pride in all that he did and never seemed to be too busy to help a friend or neighbor in need, living the "golden rule" of honesty and sincerity to the fullest.
