Spencer Calvert served three terms of duty during the Revolutionary War. He served in the 3rd Virginia Regiment, commanded by General Nathaniel Green.

He endured the winter encampment at Valley Forge as part of General George Washington's army during the winter of 1777-1778. He later participated in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina in 1781.

Spencer and his family eventually settled in Caldwell County, Kentucky by 1818, where he died in 1839.∼* Sargent
