George W. Clodfelter was born in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, the son of Archibald and Mary Hinkle Clodfelter . His father died on Sept. 27, 1841 of yellow fever and is buried at the old Sides Cemetery near Cape Girardeau. His mother, Mary, married Thomas Bacon on June 19, 1842 and they had at least 7 more children. Mary and Thomas Bacon moved to Stoddard county in about 1850 and purchased the farm where the White Cemetery now lies. Mary died in 1897 and was buried on her farm 1 mile southeast of Leora, no stones are left there, her tombstone is in her great granddaughters yard after is was rescued from beneath an old barn on the bacon family farm.
George married Margaret Barbee on Oct. 10, 1860 and they had one daughter, Emma . Margaret Barbee Clodfelter died March 15, 1862 and is buried at White Cemetery.
George then married Margaret J. Bloys on December 24, 1864 and they had 8 children.
