JoAnn Marie McGee, age 71, of Chariton, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. She was born on November 19, 1946 to Vincent and Mary (Hannam) Scieszinski in Melrose.
She graduated High School at St. Josephs Academy in Des Moines. She married Bernard McGee on November 1, 1969 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose, and they were blessed with four children: Vickie, Tricia, Scott, and Donnie. She worked her entire life helping and serving others, and after death she will continue helping others live a better life through organ donation.
JoAnn was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose, and the Melrose Green Hat Society. She enjoyed crafting, playing hand and foot card game, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Vickie (Greg) Vlasek of Cedar Rapids, IA, Tricia (Danny) Knowles of Wilmington, IL, Scott (Jenny) McGee of Russell, IA, Donnie (Brenda) McGee of Chariton, IA; twelve grandchildren, Will, Wyatt, and Weston Vlasek, Daniel, Bridget, and Kylee Knowles, Ryder, Addison, and Bailey McGee, Kasey (Austin) Roberts, Garrett (Rachelle) Moore, and Mackensie (Trayson) Allen; two great grandchildren, Evelyn Allen and Lucas Reed, and two sisters, Linda Coady, and Karen Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Mary Scieszinski, and husband, Bernard McGee.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose with Father Mark Yates officiating, and Deacon Edwin Kamerick assisting. Burial will follow services in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m. and JoAnns family will be present from 4-8 p.m. Friday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will also be a Christian Wake and Rosary Service held at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose, Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose or the Iowa Dialysis Center, Fresenius Kidney Care in Centerville.
