LILLIAN ALBERS WINNING
February 7, 1927 - December 22, 2017

Lillian Albers (Lil) Winning went to her Heavenly home on December 22, 2017, at the age of 90. Lil was born in Elkville, Illinois and lived her first 12 years in rural Illinois until moving to Murphysboro, IL. Graduating from Murphysboro High School in 1945, she then attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where she majored in Physical Education and was an outstanding three-sport athlete, excelling in volleyball, field hockey and softball. Around the time of her graduation in 1950, Lil was one of the top softball pitchers in the country, a passion she lived out until age 50. Lil married William T. (Bill) Winning, Jr. a fellow student-athlete at SIU on March 10, 1950. Lil taught school but then raised four children before going back to school at 45 to earn her Master’s Degree in Special Education from UMSL, graduating summa cum laude. For the next 20 years she worked as a case manager for the Missouri Department of Mental Health serving countless special needs clients. Lil was a woman of faith, having accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. Her testimony was her life, which she lived well. Her faith drove every aspect of her life, and she took great joy in seeing her children and grandchildren come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Lil was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and son, Steven. She is survived by her children, William T. (Carol) Winning, III, of Houston, Texas, Patrick Winning, of St. Charles, Missouri, Dana L. (Dio) Foster, of Kirkwood, Missouri, R. Kyle (Laura) Winning, of Little Rock, Arkansas, her grandchildren, Erika A.
