Richard graduated from Paulsboro High School, New Jersey in 1948. He was an accomplished musician and played the trumpet with a professional group.
In 1954, he and Lois June Spissell (1931-2017) were married in New Jersey.
Richard developed a brain tumor and died shortly thereafter of complications from the surgery.
