DAVID3 GATES (Daniel2, George1), born June 27, 1709 in East Haddam, CT, baptized there July 24, 1709, admitted to full communion in the First Church of East Haddam, December 28, 1729, married, September 17, 1731, the widow HANNAH (HUNGERFORD) ACKLEY, daughter of Thomas3 Hungerford (Thomas2,1) and Elizabeth Smith. Hannah had married, first, November 22, 1727, Samuel Ackley Jr., born December 8, 1703, died, January 18, 1729. The widow Ackley was nine years her second husband’s senior and brought with her two children, namely, Samuel Ackley, born December 30, 1728 and David Ackley, born April 23, 1730. She had been admitted to the First Church of East Haddam, August 1, 1721. In 1778, David Gates and his son Levi sold all their property in East Haddam, CT and with the proceeds, some three hundred pounds, purchased several contiguous tracts of land in what is now Hartford, Washington County, NY. David Gates died, January 16, 1795, in Millington.
