Joseph Dewey Sistare, Jr., age 88, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Oakleaf Village Assisted Living in Greer, SC.
Born in Kingsport, TN, on April 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph Dewey Sistare, Sr., and the late Mazie Threat Sistare. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and earned a BS in Chemistry from Clemson University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a chemical engineer until his retirement. Joseph was heavily involved with the Connie Maxwell Children's Home as well as other mission work. He was a proud Clemson Tiger fan. Joseph was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Anderson.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Dewey "Chip" Sistare, III and his wife Karen, of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Bill Sistare and his wife Juanita, of Jacksonville, FL; and two grandchildren, Caroline and Cameron Sistare.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bernice Jackson Sistare, who passed away in 2017; and two sisters, Jean Waldrop and Doris Snowden.
The funeral service will be held at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Dr. Don Cox officiating at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, 1012 Concord Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
