St. Paul Mountain Air, 9 October 1909

D. H. McCullah died at his home in Pettigrew Monday morning of heart trouble, complicated with other diseases. His remains were interred at Dutton Tuesday under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity. Mr. McCullah was 53 years old and had been in very poor health for over a year.

Obituary: Again that dreaded messenger of death has visited our ranks and our loved brother D. H. McCullah has answered the call of the Supreme Ruler, Grand Master of the Universe, from labor and has departed into the great beyond from whence no traveler returns. We hope he will receive the good reward due all good and just men. Brother D. H. McCullah was 56 years old had been a member of the A. F. & A. M. for a number of years, and at time of his death was a member of Alpha Lodge U. D. at Pettigrew, Arkansas. Brother D. H. McCullah departed this life the 4 day of October 1909. Up to the time of his death he had made a good member and a model citizen. Resolved, that the death of our Brother McCullah the lodge post, a good member and his family a long husband and father and the community a model citizen. Resolved, further that this lodge extends sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Brother McCallah and that a copy of these resolutions be spread on the minutes of this lodge, that a copy be sent to the family and that they be printed in the St. Paul Mountain Air. Inscription

This grave is marked with a homemade cement square lying flat on the ground. In 2000 it was noted that it was still legible and read: "Daniel H. & Son McCullah"

Beside Daniel are 3 more homemade cement squares which read: Levi McCullah; Lee McCullah; and John McCullah

Daniel was married first to Peremia A. BRACKET, who died in 1897 in Missouri. They were the parents of William C., born 1884; Maggie Ann, born 1892; and Elden, born February 1897.

Daniel H. McCullah married his second wife, Virginia Belle DAVIS on June 27, 1897, in Barry County, Missouri. They were the parents of three children before his death in 1909. Virginia remarried to A. McDonald on February 11, 1912, in Madison County, Arkansas. Virginia married again to A. L. Allen (born 1858) on March 24, 1915, in Benton County, Arkansas; and is shown as divorced on the 1930 Bates County, Missouri, census.
