Donald Boyd Achttien

Donald Boyd Achttien peacefully went to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday the 9th of December, 2017.
Don was born Friday, the 13th of November, 1931 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. His parents were Jacob & Lura Achttien. He attended Wilder Grade School, and Central High School class of 1949. He then attended the University of North Dakota, where he pursued his passion of engineering and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering in 1953.
In August of 1953, Donald went to work as an underground mine laborer for Climax Molybdenum Company in Leadville, Colorado. Called for duty in the Air Force in May of 1954, Donald served in Korea and Japan. Discharged as 1st lieutenant in December 1955, Donald returned to Climax as a contract miner; his passion, intelligence, and hard work quickly promoted him to Resident Manager of the mining operation.
On July 4, 1959, Donald married the love of his life, his sweet "Rosie", Rosa Lee Moore of Grand Junction, Colorado.
They loved, nurtured, and raised two children together: Brent R. Achttien, now living in Watauga, Texas; and Lisa D. Tidwell, now living in Sugar Land, Texas.
Donald left Climax and joined Exxon Minerals in 1977, transferring to Houston and working as an Executive associated with mining developments an operations, in the US and around the world. Later that year, he became Vice president of Operations, and then in 1980 became Vice President of Project Development. In 1984, he was general manager of Grandon Project in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
In April 1992, Donald retired from ExxonMobil. He spent many years traveling around the US and Europe with his sweet Rosie, enjoying and sharing precious memories with each other. One of their favorite getaway spots was in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rosa Lee Achttien passed away in 2006. He then became very involved in his church, serving as an Elder and driving a bus for children to have transportation to and from church. Responding to God's call on Donald's life, he selflessly served his family and friends with unconditional love in his heart.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Sister Jean Peterson and Brother John W. Achttien. He is survived by his sister, Carol Knutson of Colorado Springs, CO; children and grandchildren: Kristen Achttien (married to Casey Boggess), Adam Achttien (married to Jory Shroeder); Janelle Tidwell, and Danae Rose Tidwell Moreno (married to Jordan Moreno).
