Owens Ockerman, Jr., 86, of Upper Sharpsburg Road, Carlisle, Kentucky passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was born in Nicholas County, Kentucky on December 24, 1930 the son of the late Owens and Ruby Curry Ockerman, Sr. He was an US Army veteran having served in Korea and a Bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was in the trucking business, a farmer and sold coal for over 60 years.

He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Mildred Hatton Ockerman of Sharpsburg; a daughter, Deborah (Daniel) Parker of Huntsville, AL; a grandson, Damon (Maggie) Smith of Sharpsburg, KY; two great grandchildren, Addyson Smith and Ryland Smith; a brother, Carlton Ockerman of Mt. Sterling; and a sister, Theresa Barnes of Owingsville, KY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Ockerman and four sisters, Stella Ockerman, Anna Lee Perry, Lillian Munday and Helen Taylor.

Funeral services will be at 12 Noon, Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Owingsville with Bros. Bob Bylund, Keith Kappes and Ted Marshall officiating and burial following in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 10 am – 12 noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Owingsville. Pallbearers will be Carlton Owens Ockerman, Zach Arnett, Melvin Eicher, Jesse Wireman, Brian Hatton, Greg Hatton and Tanner Ockerman. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Petitt, Kirby Kappes and Kenley Kappes. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post # 22. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Humanitarian Aid Fund. Taul Funeral Homes of Mt. Sterling is in charge of arrangements
