John loved nature and spent the majority of his free time exploring the beauty and serenity of the wilderness, which he considered a treasure.
He was a talented artist, poet, photographer, and writer who often gave gifts of his drawings, paintings, and sketches to family and friends. His interest in American history led him to become involved in Civil War reenactments, which he especially enjoyed performing for school children.
John's big heart would not allow him to turn away stray or injured animals, many of which he took in and cared for as his own; Dickens and Rusty were two such fortunate cats.
John was a man of integrity whose love and friendship he gave unconditionally. His kind, thoughtful, and unselfish ways will be missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by four brothers, Charles Eugene Galletta and wife Shirley of Brentwood, California; James Stephen Galletta and wife Carolyn of Lecanto, Florida; Patrick Michael Galletta and wife Joan of Jeffersonton, Virginia; Paul Daniel Galletta and wife Stella of Fall Creek, Oregon. John is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Isabel Galletta, and brother Tony Galletta.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 29, 2017, at St. Anne's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Archibong officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Eureka Springs Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
