"L. Wayne Bell, 81, Kokomo, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, while on a vacation in Kentucky. Wayne [SFNA genealogy no. H393-112] was born Sept. 18, 1928, in Howard County, to the late Virgil Y. and Hazel J. (STUDEBAKER) Bell. His marriage to the former Patricia Smiley, who survives, was on Nov. 18, 1955, in Kokomo.

He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950. He worked as a machinist for 37-1/2 years, retiring in January 1983 from Continental Steel. He also was a substitute bus driver for several local school systems. He was also a member of First Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Brian Wayne Bell, Indianapolis; a brother, Robert Keith and wife Lan Bell, Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandsons, Michael Dillon Walker, Kokomo, and Dustin Lee Bell, Mishawaka; along with very close friends Homer and Karen Brown, Kokomo, and Richard and Betty Kiser.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Chuck Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Kokomo Rescue Mission, Open Arms, or Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 300, NC 28607.
