Pegi graduated from Kennett High School in 1941. After graduation, she moved to St. Louis by way of Indianapolis, and early on worked as a medical technician. She took a room in a hotel, which is where she met her husband Sol, the property manager. Sol didn’t feel comfortable with his future wife living in a hotel so he rented a room (unbeknownst to her) in St. Louis, from Ann and Roy Thompson, who along with their children, Helen O’Brien, Shirley Rebhan Hergenroeder and Lynn Proetz, became extended family.
After the passing of her husband, Pegi was left with two small children to raise and often worked two jobs to make ends meet. She worked in sales for many years, retiring in 1994 when she was almost 70.
She was an avid bridge player, playing for many years with close friends Mary Fagan, Vivian Howard and Helen Alexander. She enjoyed traveling and playing tennis and golf. Pegi loved animals and had many dogs and cats through the years who brightened her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa, of Warson Woods, Mo., and her son, Brad, and his wife Sally of Jefferson City and two grandchildren, Blair Oxenhandler of St. Louis, and Brian Oxenhandler of New York City.
