Rebecca Anderson Allard
June 1, 1918 - December 15, 2017

Rebecca Anderson Allard, age 99, died on December 15, 2017 at Stonegate Nursing Center in Fort Worth.

A private graveside service will be held at the Anderson family plot in Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fort Worth Symphony, in memory of Rebecca, would be appreciated.

Rebecca was born June 1, 1918 to Rada Angeline Hart Anderson and Justin Van Gordon Anderson in Anson, Texas.

She attended Weatherford Junior College, where she was editor of the Coyote, the school paper, and continued at Texas State College for Women, now known as Texas Woman's University, as a member of the Class of 1939. She graduated with a double major in Music Education and Piano and began her long and meaningful career as a private piano teacher and as a teacher in the public schools of Ozona, Texas, Monterey, California, Abilene, Sweetwater and Fort Worth, Texas. She also performed piano recitals for Music Clubs throughout West Texas. After Rebecca moved to Fort Worth, she became a prolific Symphony League volunteer, most notably creating a music appreciation program that toured the public schools.

During Rebecca's years as a music teacher, her proudest achievement was a course of study that she created, finding none available, for each elementary school grade. The superintendent of the Sweetwater public school system asked her to duplicate it to share with the other elementary school music teachers. When Rebecca was teaching in Fort Worth, the Sweetwater high school band director asked for a copy of her course of study because her former students were coming to him better prepared than any before.

Rebecca's career as a teacher was not limited to music. In the 1960s she took on the burgeoning field of study for dyslexia. After conducting her own research, she created a program in Sweetwater for her third grade students. Many years later one of these students wrote to her, saying that he had graduated from college. "Thanks to you, I finally made it."

Rebecca is preceded in death by her husband, Roland Rue Allard.

Survivors: Daughter, Rebecca Ann Allard; son, Philip Roland Allard; granddaughter, Abigail Marye Allard; sister, Mary Justine Anderson; and niece, Rada Hart Salomon.
