One of 12 children of Phillip Giles Carlise and Lucretia Jane Spradling who were married 11/13/1844. His father later remarried (12/29/1871) after his mother's death to Julia A. Duett and they had 4 more children. Phillip Alexander's first marriage was to N.L. Duett (8/29/1870) and they had one child, Lucinda Catherine. His second marriage was to Sarah Ellen Purdy. Their children were Edward James, Lula Jane, Elsie Eloise, Sarah Elizabeth, Ethel Ada, Richard Emmett, William George and Mary Ella. Phillip Alexander's third marriage was to Sallie Grider (11/9/1904) she died July 8, 1905.
