He was the son of Hugh Anderson and Hannah Wilhelmina Buchanan. He married (1) Augusta Keith 'Gussie' Hickox at St. Joseph, Missouri, on December 5, 1900; (2) Margaret Mason Moore in Alameda County, California, on October 11, 1922; (3) Catherine Joyce.
