Dixie "Lavern" Talburt, 87, of Perkins, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Redbud Living Center in Perkins.

Lavern was born May 15, 1930 in Mountain Home, Arkansas to Johnie and Flora "Grace" Ward Jones. She was a farm girl who had to live away from home during the week to attend high school where she was on the softball team. She received a scholarship to attend a business school which she declined and married the love of her life Noble P. "Jay" Talburt, Jr. in March 1949.

Through Jay's job with the Army Corp of Engineers, she lived in various parts of the U.S. before settling in Colorado. Lavern worked evening part time jobs and then worked as a technical writer for Rockwell International until her retirement.

Lavern was a skilled seamstress, chef and homemaker. She liked to fish, camp, boat with Jay, various needle crafts, go to the mountains and general sightseeing trips. In retirement she traveled extensively in their RV and belonged to the Good Sam's and Columbine Clubs.

Throughout her life, Lavern was known for her kind and gentle spirit, sense of humor, as a loyal and dedicated friend, positive approach to whatever life brought her, and her love for her husband, children and grandchildren.

Lavern was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Noble P. "Jay" Talburt, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce L. "Joylyn" of Lakewood, Colorado; son, Michael B. "Mike" of Carney, Oklahoma; sister, Laura Lavon of Independence, Missouri; two grandsons, Nicholas and Eric; three great grandsons and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Dixie's life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with Rev. Joe Day officiating. Interment will follow at Carney Cemetery in Carney, Oklahoma.
