Born March 13, 1945 in Salt Lake City to Joseph and Melva Longson and died December 10, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Susan; as well as his son, Joe (Miranda) Longson; and daughter, Jill (Jason) Johnson. John loved nothing more in life than being a "papa" to his three granddaughters, Amelia, Peri, and Sariah.
John retired from the Salt Lake City Police Department in 1991 and from Delta Airlines in 2001. In earlier years, he was an avid gardener, golfer, fisherman, and bowler.
He lived at Rocky Mountain Care Center at Hunter Hollow for two years following an accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury. During his time there, he enjoyed swimming, skiing, and bowling as part of their program for people with disabilities. He also loved John Wayne, riding a Harley, the Beach Boys, a good cup of coffee, and a strong glass of scotch.
John is also survived by his sister, Joann (Jim) Delamare; brother, Sonny (Kelly) Longson; and a very close friend, Jack McIntyre. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores; and brother, Larry.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, with a visitation on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to the services on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
