Myrtle E. Houtz, 90, of State College, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born April 7, 1913, in Pleasant Gap, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Hattie F. Pardoe Hendershot. In 1932, she married Charles W. Meyer. On Feb. 23, 1967, she married Nevin E. Houtz, who preceded her in death Feb. 20, 2002. She worked at Danks in Huntingdon and at JC Penney Co. Inc. in Somerset. She was also a waitress at the Eutaw House in Potters Mills and later managed Pier 53 Restaurant in Bellefonte for H.E. Shawley. She retired from the Nittany Lion Inn in State College in 1967. She was associated with the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Bellefonte Senior Citizens and NACO Thousand Trails Camping Organization. She especially enjoyed socializing, antiques, collectibles, camping and working with flowers. She is survived by a daughter, Bonna M. Seiner, of Tyrone; two sons, Stanley E. and David A. Meyer, both of Centre Hall; a stepdaughter, Janet Auker, of Altoona; two stepsons, David Houtz, of Palmerton, and Donald Houtz, of State College; a sister, Arlene Mayes, of Bellefonte; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Berrus officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township.
