Born in Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County, Illinois, Monday, November 4, 1929, he was a son of the late Clarence Edward York, Sr. and Opal Mae Skinner York. He married Margaret L. McKay December 3, 1949, in Morganfield, Union County, Kentucky.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Duane York; brother, Clarence Edward York, Jr.; sisters, Nedra York Hayes, and infant, Sissie York.
Billie Joe worked for General Tire in Mt. Vernon for 20 years, retiring as a manager; he was later employed by Stan the Tire Man in Mt. Vernon for 22 years, and he was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon.
Surviving are his wife, Mt. Vernon, Illinois; one son; one daughter; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the funeral home with Pastor Wayland Middendorf officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery.
