Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Manteno and Sky Harbor Farm in Manteno. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or to Manteno United Methodist Church, where he was a member for 50 years. Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Manteno.
Mr. Brandt was a farmer for 40 years. He is the third generation to work the family farm in Manteno Township. He was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Manteno, the son of Peter and Tillie Koenig Brandt. He served in the 1st Armored Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served on the Manteno District Unit 5 Board of Education for six years; was elected and served for the Manteno Farmers Elevator Board for 15 years, serving 13 years as president; was a Township Committeeman for the ASC government agency for 35 years, six of those as County Committee Chairman; and was a member of Manteno American Legion Post 755 for more than 50 years. He was an avid flier. He owned his own plane and had an airstrip on the farm for 35 years, accumulating more than 2000 hours in the air.
Surviving are his wife, the former Alta Crowdson, whom he married June 6, 1952, in Decatur; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Rachel Brandt of Vermont, James and Marcia Brandt of Bradley, Alan and Heather Brandt of Lanesville, Ind.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Danita and Michael Velbel of East Lansing, Mich., Caroline Davis of Jackson, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Russell, Henry and Alfred; and two sisters, Eloise and Margaret.
