William J. Elliott, a veteran of the Civil War died at his late
residence, No. 215 North Fifth Street, at 8:15 o'clock Friday morning.
Deceased was in the sixty-eigth year of his age and death was due to dropsy
and Brights disease. He had been complaining for the past three years and
was confined to his room the past year. He died sitting in his chair.
Deceased was born at Port Clinton, Schuylkill County and was a
carpenter by trade. He continued at his trade until his illness began three
years ago. He served all through the Civil War, having served in Company C,
48th Regiment, and Company B, Sixth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers,
having enlisted during the whole term of the Civil War. The family moved to
Allentown ten years ago. He is survived by the widow, and the following
children: William L., Charles B., John J., Harry H., and George H. Elliott,
Mrs. Charles M. Trapp, Mrs. Allan V. Loux, Mrs. William H. Reichenbach and
Mrs. William Haggerson, all of this city. Five Brothers also survive and are
Samuel of , John H. and Reuben of Pottstown,
Jacob of Danville and James Elliott of Shamokin. Deceased was a member of
Yeager Post No.13 G.A.R. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from
his late home. Services in the Linden Street M. E. Church, Rev. R. D.
Naylor officiating. Company E, Second Regiment, Sons of Veteran Reserves,
and Yeager Post, No. 13 G. A. R. attended in a body.
