Shawnee resident Audrey Hendershot, 94, passed away Friday, December 1 at her home. Audrey was born in rural Tulsa County on August 29, 1923 to Arch and Annie Stoneman.

Both parents were Oklahoma Pioneers. Her first schooling was at Rock Creek, a one room school on the Coyote Trail. Eventually it was consolidated with Keystone where she graduated from high school. The next two years were spent at Stillwater where she worked and took a two year business course. Before this was complete, World War II came along and disrupted everyone’s lives.

She moved to Tulsa and was employed by Shell Oil Co. where she moved through the ranks to become Executive Secretary. When the Tulsa office closed, she was transferred to Midland, TX.

In 1959 she and John Hendershot were married and she retired for two years. Eventually she began helping John in the office. As the business changed she became more involved and continued as a working partner until his health declined and it was necessary to close operations.
The following years were consumed with caretaking for her husband.

She had interesting memories of growing up in the depression and dust bowl years. On occasion she would comment that the depression forever left its mark on anyone who endured and survived it.

Gardening was one of her pleasures and she enjoyed sharing as much as the growing.

Viewing will begin Sunday at 1pm. Graveside services will be 11:00am Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park.
