Willem Van Vredenburgh, from the Hague, arrived in New Amsterdam, May 1658, aboard the Gilded Beaver. He was a soldier in the service of the Dutch West India Co., as shown by a petition dated 16 Jun 1661, of Willem Van Vredenburg and Cornelis Andriessen Hoogland, discharged soldiers, for a remission of the prices of their passage money to this country. In 1673 Willem Van Vredenburg was living within Fort William Hendrick and the fortifications of New Orange. Lot no.1 on the west side of Broadway, in what was formerly the garden of the West India Co., was ordered to be set off to Willem Van Vredenburg. This lot was sold in 1678 to David Ackerman. About 1677, Willem Vredenburg moved to Esopus (Kingston) where three of his children were baptized.
