Wilda was born in Reading, Kansas, the daughter of John M. Johnson and Marguerite Gray Johnson. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers' College in 1942 with a teaching certificate. She married Willie "Bill" Schornick of Yates Center on September 22, 1946.

Together they raised 3 children. Wilda was predeceased by her husband Bill, son Kent, brothers Glen and William, sisters Neola, Wanda and Bernice; great-granddaughter Danika and great-grandson Paul.

Wilda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Yates Center, a lifetime member of the Goldenrod Chapter of Eastern Star and a fifty-plus year member of the Yates Center Chapter of P.E.O.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private memorial service is planned near Christmas when most of the family has gathered for the holiday. Her gravestone rests in the Yates Center Cemetery.
