DAETWILER RITES CONDUCTED TODAY (From Newspaper 02/05/1942)
Funeral services are being held this afternoon (Thursday) at two o'clock at the First Christian Church for Mrs. Emma Daetwiler, 74, who passed away in the Wesley Hospital, Wichita, on Tuesday morning, Feb. 3, at the close of an extended illness.
Mrs. Daetwiler had been a resident of Dickinson county since 1871, and for a number of years had maintained a residence in Herington. She is known throughout the entire tri-county area.
Rev. L. A. Indlecoffer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Herington, will officiate at the services this afternoon, assisted by Rev. J. P. Martyn. Interment will take place in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are W. C. Floyd, George Biehler, Arch Hunt, Frank Kifer, Charles Collins and Ralph Lower. Puryear's are in charge of the funeral arrangements. Short services will be held at 1:30 at Mrs. Daetwiler's home, 606 South A St., preceding the services at church.
Emma Daetwiler, the daughter of Jackim and May Neimeier was born Feb. 16, 1867, near Watertown, Wisconsin, and at her death had reached the age of 74 years, 11 months and 18 days. She came to Dillon, Kansas in 1871, with her parents, where she grew to womanhood.
In the month of September, 1887, she was united in marriage to Otto Daetwiler, who preceded her in death a number of years ago. She was the mother of 11 children, two of whom died in infancy, and on son, Harry, passed away in 1925 at the age of 32 years.
The eight surviving children are: William Daetwiler of Compton, Calif., Charles Daetwiler of Ramona, Kansas; Alvin and Irvin Daetwiler of Herington; Ed Daetwiler of Compton, Calif., James Daetwiler of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Verda Pybas of Salinas, California, and Mrs. Mary Talbert of Mitchell, South Dakota.
One granddaughter, Delores Daetwiler, of the home also survives, as do 27 other grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Daetwiler became a member of the First Baptist Church of Dickinson County in 1892. In her humble quiet way she lived a life of Christian service to her family.
