THE PARIS NEWS, Saturday, December 2, 2017: “Joanna Presley, 94, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with the Rev. Edgar Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Presley, the daughter of Lawrence and Lillie Martin Price, was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Lamar County. She graduated from Midway School and Paris Junior College and received her teaching degree from East Texas State Teacher’s College. Her career in education spanned 36 years teaching at Galena Park ISD in Houston and later at West Lamar ISD. Joanna was a member of the DRT, UDC and Texas Retired Teachers. During her lifetime she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years with most of those years at Uvalde Baptist Church and Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She married Thomas Byron Presley on March 5, 1948, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1991. Survivors include three sons: Sammy Presley and wife, Brenda, of Corrigan, Danny Presley of Metairie, Louisiana, and Tommy Presley of Blossom; grandchildren, Melissa Rabano and husband, Ray, of Corrigan, Matthew Presley of Austin, Sheila Presley of Bremerton, Washington, Dustin Presley and wife, Britt, of Metairie, Louisiana, Katie Presley of Fort Worth and Michael Presley and wife, Catherine of Blossom; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Alice McFadden of Mesquite and Myra Kinard of Brookston; along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as casketbearers. The family would like to extend special thanks to Taylor Treadway and Karen with Heart to Heart Hospice and all the staff at Honey Grove Nursing Center.Submitted by Viola Broyles.
