Oil Worker Crused To Death By Pulley
Frank Hendry, believed to be from Long Beach, was crushed to death at Huntington Beach at 7:30 this morning when a 500-pound pulley fell thirty feet in an oil derrick, driving Hendry through the derrick platform. The accident occurred on a Superior Oil Company rig in the new section of the Huntington Beach oil field, adjacent to Ocean Boulevard. A large steel cable parted, dropping the pulley.
Up to a late hour today authorities had been unable to locate relatives of the accident victim. Hendry, from effects found on his clothing, is believed to have been employed in the long Beach oil field before going to Huntington Beach. At one time he was employed at Torrance. He was about 25 years old and it is not known whether he was married.
An inquest will be held late today by Coroner C.D. Brown at the S.L. Harrell undertaking parlors at Huntington Beach.
Several other workman on and about the derrick platform when the pulley fell narrowly escaped seriuos injury.
