GALLUP — A traditional wake for Ismeal "Smiley" J. Gonzales, 63, was 10 a.m. today, Thursday, March 15, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Rev. Eduardo Espinosa, OFM, officiated. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. A rosary was recited at St. Francis Catholic Church.
Gonzales died Sunday, March 11, in Gallup. He was born July 31, 1943 in Cuba, N.M.
Gonzales was a 1st Sgt. in the Army National Guard. He worked at Fort Wingate Army Depot, RMCH, Giant Refinery and Amigo's. He enjoyed doing carpentry work around his home. He was a people person.
Survivors include his wife, Flora Gonzales; daughters, Gina Gonzales and Alexcia Chavez; brother, Medardo Gonzales; sister, Estella Crespin; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Gonzales was preceded in death by his father, Elizardo Gonzales; mother, Emelia Gonzales; sister, Carmelita Alonzo.
