Jack L. Byers, 62, a Hoquiam resident for the past seven years, collapsed at his home last night and was dead on arrival at an Aberdeen hospital.
He was born at Steamboat Springs, Colo., Feb. 4, 1910, and had owned and operated his own welding shop in the Yakima Valley before coming to Hoquiam. He had been retired for the past 14 years due to illness.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, at the home, Route 3, Box 658; six sons, James of Hoquiam, Jerry of Amanda Park, Martin of Tieton, Michael of White Swan, Dennis of Seattle and Henry Harrington with the Army at Fort Carson, Colo.; two brothers, Mark and Ivan Byers, both of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. John Poisel of Amanda Park and Mrs. Josephine Fiori of Denver, Colo.; 14 grandchildren.

I was unable to locate Jack Elton's headstone. I know the location they say he was buried in but it is in the "county section" which tells me that it may have been a paupers grave, for the lack of a better word. That area is all overgrown and the stones are about 18 inches by 5 inches in size and most are overgrown with weeds and moss. My husband and I dug around for some time trying to find him but many in that area don't even have headstones. There are some that are named Jane Doe and John Doe. It's not a very nice place and I have complained in the past. Dorothys stone is not far from that area but it too, is in a more unkept part of the cemetery.
