Irene Margaret Clise

Irene Margaret "Peggy" Harvey Clise, 65, a Flatwoods, W.Va. native, left this world to join her heavenly Father on April 7, 2011. Born on September 20, 1945, the youngest daughter of the late John and Mary Nell Berry Harvey and granddaughter of the late A.W. and Anna Zinn Berry, both of Flatwoods.

Her death came after a short illness, during recovery from back surgery while staying with her daughter.

Living her life with the passion and joy of the writer she was, she gave love and happiness freely with a quick smile and warm hug. Raising her children, and any of the many that passed through her door throughout her life, was one of her greatest pleasures. When not being a mother and an aunt, she was a writer of children's stories and a reviewer for restaurants and bed and breakfasts for national and local magazines. She was s past mayor of Flatwoods, who worked tirelessly to create a police department to slow down the traffic past the elementary school. "If it only saves one child's life " it was worth it. Simply stated, she cared.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley I. Clise; and sister, Georgia E. Hoffman (Harvey).

She is survived by her son, John Harvey Clise of Flatwoods; and daughter, Kelli Camille (Clise) Murray and her husband, Brant Thomas Murray of New York, N.Y. Also surviving are her sister, Elizabeth A. Foret; brother-in-law, Steve Foret of Columbia Station, Ohio; her adored nieces, Margaret Boise Lee, and Monique Mohka (Paul), Marcia Merrick (Dan); as well as her nephews, Troy Merrick (Fran), Mitchell Merrick, and Matt Thayer (Chrissy); and beautiful great-nieces and nephews, Blake, Eric, Trevor, Meghan, Nelcia, Joleena, Lance, Sanjay and Jesprest.

Additionally, she leaves behind Valerie Nicholas (Rupert) and children, Nathaniel and Caroline; and her grand "God" children, Parker and Desabella Smith.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes, along with her husband's ashes, will be spread off the coast of Rhode Island, where they spent one of the most wonderful summers of their lives together.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate her life.

Per her wishes, memorial donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Society.
