The 1940 Census shows them living in the Long Marsh District of Clarke County, VA; Charles is employed as a "School Cabbie" (bus driver?). Charles's WW II Draft Card shows Louise's maiden name; they are living in Gaylord, Clarke County, VA and Charles is employed by the Clarke County School Board. They were divorced in 1948 in St. Johns County, Florida. Louise was born 18 Apr 1918 in Clarke County, VA, the daughter of Boyd Hamilton McDonald and Ruth Isabelle Carper.

Charles was married 24 Dec 1953 in Winchester, VA to Edna Irene (Armentrout) Hoover. They had a daughter Vickie in 1956 and Irene died in 1959.
