Donald Bruckman, 86, passed away on Nov. 20, 2017.

A native of Staten Island, he lived in Tottenville for more than 60 years and, before that, in Pleasant Plains and Prince's Bay.

Donald was a NYC fireman for 27 years, starting at Engine 6 and retiring from Engine 159 in 1986.

He attended Staten Island Academy, where he played soccer in high school. He enjoyed camping, gardening, photography, reading and going to Atlantic City. As a teen he worked and lived on a fishing boat at Lemon Creek in Prince's Bay.

He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 on the U.S.S. Jeffers DMS27. He was a ship's serviceman second class and went to yearly ship reunions. He received the good conduct medal, Navy occupation services medal and the national defense service medal.

Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mae (nee Schuler), and sons, Joseph and Douglas.
Funeral home service is at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home Monday at 11 a.m. Interment is in Bethel Cemetery.

Friends may visit Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
