He worked for Chrysler for 20 years and then eventually retired from Naval Avionics after 20 years in mechanic ordinance. Jack was a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Eden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time outdoors and loved taking care of his pets. Jack had a great sense of humor and really knew how to make his family and friends smile. He was known to many as a kind and quiet man. Jack was a man of faith.
Jack is survived by his children, Debbie (Kelly) Behen of Bloomington, Andy Gilliland of Greenfield and Rebecca Gilliland of Indianapolis; special friend, Edith McCurdy; brothers, Bill Gilliland and Rusty Gilliland; sister, Peggy Gilliland; seven grandchildren, Larry, Brandon, Amanda, Brady, Xavier, Jude and Sydney; five great-grandchildren; close friend and brother-in-law, Floyd Snider; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frances Gilliland; wife, Carole Gilliland; and brothers, Charles "Nick" Gilliland and Pat Gilliland.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Military rites will be presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
