Avis Willis (Mimi to her loved ones), 90, passed away on November 24, 2017, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Burial will be at Tehuacana Cemetery.

Anelda Avis was born in Teague, Texas, to the late Audrey and Hughie Christopher Gore. She was raised in a large loving family with nine brothers and sisters. Avis married John Karner Willis of Tehuacana in September 1946 in Teague. They settled in Greenville, Texas, where John served as a Texas State Trooper. Their three children were born there: Hugh Douglas, John Karner Jr., and Janet Kay.

The family returned to Mexia in 1960 and all three children graduated from Mexia schools. Avis worked as a florist in Mexia for over 50 years. She was a faithful member of The McKinney Street Church of Christ, President of the Daughters of the Confederacy, and longtime volunteer at the hospital in Mexia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; brothers, Alford (died Christmas Day 1944 in Bastogne), and Hughie Jr.; and sister, Linda.

Survivors include her sons, Hugh Douglas Willis and wife, Linda, of Hillsboro, and John Karner Willis Jr. and wife, Vicki, of Waco; daughter, Janet Martinelli and husband, Dave, of Waxahachie; grandchildren: Laura, John, and Leah Borel and husband, Stan, John Douglas and wife, Crystal, Russell and wife, Marcie, Nathan Ragsdale and wife, Vanessa, Blake Ragsdale and wife, Alison, Jordan, Victoria, and David Jr.; great-grandchildren: Mikaylie, Tierra, Jenna Lee, Jack and Tyranny, Sophie, Audrey, Sidney and Ty, Levi, Lori and Gabriel; brothers and sisters; Alford, Louise, J.W., Juanita, Hughie Jr., Madie, Gene, Linda, and Terry; other relatives and many friends.
