Jerry Dean Brunson, 75, of Baytown was born May 12, 1942, and was greeted by his Savior at Heaven’s Gates on Saturday, November 25, 2017. He was a member of Fields City Baptist Church of Dallas and attended The Rollingbrook Fellowship, First Baptist Church, of Baytown.

Jerry served proudly and honorably in the United States Coast Guard for five years as a Boatswain’s Mate on the USCG Cutter Blue Bonnet. He was a Golden Gloves Heavyweight Finalist who enjoyed mentoring and training young boxers.

Jerry was a creative builder at heart in many forms of the building construction trade. He was employed at Exxon Chemical Company for eight years as a rigger and owned Glen’s Pest Control for sixteen years until retirement. He was a tough man with a strong work ethic, rough exterior but a marshmallow heart, always willing to help those in need. His quit wit and sense of humor warmed the heart of anyone he met. He especially loved to spar with people just to get them going.

He loved hunting, fishing and most of all barbecuing for family and friends. These events allowed him to teach life lessons to young men; including Johnnie and David when they were deer hunting and two overindulgent teenagers kept ordering food at a restaurant, only to find at the end of the meal that Jerry wasn’t in the restroom but was in the truck, so they had to figure out how to pay for it or wash dishes.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn F. Brunson and Alma Lou Garrison Brunson; brothers, Raymond Glenn Brunson and Joe Earl Brunson; and sister, Betty Jean Allen. He is survived by his loving wife of forty two years, Shirley Schwartz Brunson; children, David Alford and wife Cindy, Debbie Brunson Silva, Wendy Yeazel and husband Lee, Leeanna Brunson Thompson and husband Ricky, and James F. Brunson and wife Shaneria; brother, Robert W. Brunson and wife Marsha; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. He also had a special love for his chocolate Lab Rosebud and his cat Miss Boots.

His family will receive friends at Rollingbrook Fellowship, First Baptist Church, 505 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521, on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a funeral to follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Yowell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Samuel Alford, Ivan Rupert, Adam Yeazel, Jeff Brunson, and good friends Bobby Howland and Johnnie Craig. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Leibee, Davis Leibee, John Harrison, Vic Aubey, Donnie Hardin, and Larry Woodcox.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's name can be made to the Purley Gates Retreat Center, 1351 FM 900 E, Mt Vernon, TX 75457-7004 or All In-Full Out (For The Cross), Rollingbrook Fellowship, 505 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521.
