On 18 March 2009 I scanned Allegheny County Death Registers (vols. 12-15, covering the time span 1897--1903) with no results for the death record of Christena (Hayden) Marshall. Subsequently, I scanned Allegheny County, PA Will & Estate indexes for the same time span with no results.

On 20 June 2009 I visited Salem Baptist Church cemetery in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and located the graves of Christena's daughter Margaret and her husband, Casper Sterner, as well as the gravestones of Christena's parents, several brothers, her grandparents, great-grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. There is no visible grave marker for Christena or her husband, Samuel Marshall.

On 25 June 2009 I searched Westmoreland County Death Registers, Wills & Estates Index, and Deed Index, with no mention of Christena Marshall.

Update: today, 25 November 2017, I did a broad Pennsylvania-based search for 'Christina Marshall' and came up with the following, which may pertain:

Ligonier, PA: Ligonier Echo, issue of Wednesday, 5 September 1900, p. 4, col. 3

Mrs. Christina Marshall, of West Newton, died Sept. 2nd, aged 70 years.
-----
West Newton straddles Rostraver and South Huntingdon Townships in western Westmoreland County, so even though the age is off (she would have been 82 or 83), this may represent her death.

One reason she may have been mentioned in the Ligonier newspaper, at some distance from West Newton, is that her daughter Mary Ellen (Marshall) Morgan lived in nearby Bolivar in Fairfield Township, from at least 1899 through 1910, so she may have been the person to notify the Ligonier "Echo" about her mother's death. It's possible that a newspaper situated closer to West Newton may have a more complete obituary; additionally, the Westmoreland County death registers should be searched once again, focusing on September 2, 1900.
