Obituary for Alfred Anthony Breeland
Mr. Alfred Anthony Breeland, age 89, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017.
Alfred was born in Biloxi, MS on February 19, 1928. He was the son of Hubert Little Breeland and Mary Jane Goulas Grasso Breeland. He attended Biloxi Public Schools and graduated from Biloxi High School in August of 1950 after completing a tour in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1949. Alfred received a B.S. Degree from the University of Mississippi in 1953. After all these accomplishments he headed out to Texas to start his career in Accounting in the oil industry and to marry his first love, Doris. Alfred spent more than 30 years in Houston, Texas in the oil industry and retired from Chevron in 1987. His next journey guided him back to Biloxi, MS where he enjoyed many activities and clubs, one of which was the Gulf Coast Camellia Society. He enjoyed growing and serving as a judge for various Camellia Clubs along the Coast. Together Alfred and Doris started a scholarship fund for accounting students at the University of Southern Mississippi, where 222 students have received scholarships. This was very dear to Alfred’s heart. Alfred lost his first love in 1994 and was able to open his heart to another when he found his second love, Renae. Alfred and Renae have enjoyed 20 years together here in Biloxi.
Alfred was a member of several clubs and organizations including, Metropolitan Dinner Club, Order of Mithras Carnival Association, Ohr Museum, Seafood Industry Museum, Gulf Coast Camellia Society, and USM Alumni Association, to name a few.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert L. Breeland and Mary Jane Goulas; sister, Mercedes (John) Yallourakis; and brothers, Harry (Diana) Breeland, Carroll (Lucille) Breeland, Albert (Nancy) Breeland.
Survivors include his wife, Renae J. Breeland along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to be made to Coalville United Methodist Church, 12298 Shorecrest Rd, Biloxi, MS 39532.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Friends may visit one hour prior.
